Looking for a great and super cheesy pizza? Perhaps you are considering some authentic Italian cuisine? Well, look no further. Filippi's Pizza Grotto is a great place to get all that and more.
Fillippi's Pizza Grotto actually has eight locations throughout California, but primarily in San Diego County: Clairemont Mesa, Jamul, Little Italy, Napa, Temecula, Pacific Beach, Chula Vista, Santee, Mission Gorge, Poway, Mira Mesa, and Escondido. With our office just upstairs, we are regulars at Filippi's.
While everyone has their own personal taste, for lunch I'd say just about the best things on the menu are the lunch specials (pasta and warm bread for a little over $5.00) and the torpedo sandwich (a submarine sandwich with italian style cold cuts).
However, if you have a hankering for a pizza, Filippi's has 21 different pizzas on their menu. Perhaps the most unique pizza on the menu is the all white pizza which includes garlic, mozzarella, provolone, and oil.
The DePhilippis family came to America in 1922 and moved to San Diego in 1950 where they opened Filippi's Cash and Carry, a deli/grocery on India Street in Little Italy. This was the beginning of what is now a name commonly associated with pizza throughout San Diego Diego County.
My local Filippi's Pizza Grotto is on the corner of Broadway and Grand Avenue in Downtown Escondido.
